The price of greatness is responsibility – Winston Churchill

I hope everyone has had a tremendous summer! While real estate typically experiences a lull in the dog-days of summer, there has been no slowing down for ORTIS.

From the beginning, ORTIS has been responsible. Responsible for bringing the members, directors and staff from neighbouring Associations together. Responsible for delving into technology and evaluating which systems, software, and providers would create the most innovative system for REALTORS® in Ontario. Responsible for managing growth in a sustainable way, by approaching and welcoming Associations and Boards and expanding ORTIS services based on its changing User needs.

The changes and developments within the ORTIS group are conscious, deliberate, and above all collaborative. This year has been a productive one.  We’ve welcomed the Mississauga Real Estate Board into the ORTIS family, introduced new (and optional) applications within the Matrix system, and hired a Vice-President of Information Technology.  Committees have been formed and are working on a comprehensive review of our bylaws and MLS® rules, training, additional services for users, and of course investigating the top technology products.

With no signs of slowing down in sight, ORTIS has met with the Ontario Collective (OC) to determine if there are synergies between us that would lead to better services for all our members.

Mississauga Real Estate Board

ORTIS is pleased to formally welcome the members of the Mississauga Real Estate Board to our regional family. Founded in 1954, MREB is one of the fifteen largest boards in Canada and until recently have received MLS® Services from another real estate board.

This was a large and difficult change for MREB to make and while there will no doubt be a few bumps along the way, we look forward to a long and healthy partnership.

IntraMatrix is a feature that users can find within the shared regional MLS® System that will provide them with access to the MLS® Systems of other associations or groups who have also agreed to participate.

When you are logged into the MLS® System you will find an additional tab labelled IntraMatrix. Selecting that tab will authenticate you and then launch the Ontario Collective’s MLS® System, which you should find very similar to the ORTIS System. While similar, please remember that there may be different rules and policies, and you must comply with all the appropriate governance of that system.

IntraMatrix is capable of working with multiple partners at once. Currently ORTIS has an agreement with just the Ontario Collective, but if additional boards are added when you select the link, you will be presented with a list of participating boards. Simply select the board whose system you wish to access and you will be authenticated and launched into their system.

While having reciprocal access is a step in the right direction, it will require you to duplicate searches, clients, etc in the other system. We view this as an interim solution only since this duplication of your efforts will quickly prove to be burdensome. While convenient for the occasional search, it is not respective of members’ needs over the long term and we are committed to providing you with the best services possible…not just better services.

At their last board meeting, the directors approved the 2018/2019 budget and are pleased to report there are no changes to fees.
